The course of the modern footpath from the B3233 just south of Fremington House, out to the western bank of the Pill at Pill Cottage, probably the site of the Pill Gate, very likely marks the line of a documented late 187th century road diversion.
The alignment of the original road is more problemeatic, but it probably passed right by the fornt (east) elevation of Fremington House, and may be marked by a north-south field boundary which remained in place until the construction of Fremington Camp.
