Site of a 6th century celtic chapel dedicated to St Wardrede. Recorded as a Chapel of Ease in 1416 and as the Chapel of St Wardred at Legh in 1439. In 1716 the cottage is recorded in a manorial document as 'The Chapel in the occupation of Nathaniel Sanders'. Recent excavation exposed an ancient well and a Celtic headstone has also been discovered.

A medieval chapel dedicated to St. Wardrede once stood on the site now occupied by Chapel Cottage which was built in 1844.

Chapel Cottage locates the medieval chapel of St Wardreda, to which a priest was licensed to celebrate divine service in 1439. It was subsequently used as a cowshed and store, before being restored.
