A possible marl pit of post-medieval to modern date is visible as an earthwork pit and bank on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, to the north of Coombe Plantation. The sub-oval shaped earthwork pit measures approximately 17m in length by 14m in width and flanked by an earthwork bank derived from up-cast material to the north, south and west. The earthworks are located in close proximity to a marl pit depicted on the First Edition Ordnance survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s. The earthwork pit and banked feature remains visible on Lidar-derived images of between 1998-2007.
