A possible military feature of Second World War date is visible as an earthwork pit and bank on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, to the east of Black Hill. The elongated shaped feature comprises a north to south aligned earthwork pit which measures approximately 22m in length by 6m in width which is partly flanked by an earthwork bank. The function of the earthwork feature is largely unclear, although given its proximity to Dalditch training camp and the fresh nature of the earthworks on the 1946 aerial photographs, is likely to represent part of an associated feature, perhaps as a weapons pit or trench. The earthworks remain visible on aerial photographs up until 1960, although are not clearly visible after this date. Aerial photographs of 1985 show the expansion of Blackhill Quarry have destroyed any earthworks that may have survived.
