Orchard banks of probable post-medieval to modern date are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, to the northwest of Woodmanton. The site of the orchard is first suggested on the Woodbury parish tithe apportionment of approximately 1838-48 which records the plot as Jail Orchard, although it is not symbolised on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s and appears to have been completely grubbed up. Aerial photographs of 1946 show a series of parallel northeast to southwest aligned earthwork banks, on which the fruit trees were established, visible. These banks occupy an area of approximately 0.24 hectares of gentle northeast facing slope. The orchard banks are visible as earthwork banks on aerial photographs up until 1969, although are not clearly visible after this date and may have been completely levelled.
