The remains of earthwork ridges were visible on aerial photographs of 1963 to the south of Little Cobden, Whimple.
The banks are over 6 metres in width and are aligned obliquely cross-contour. They are interpreted as probable fruit tree planting banks of post-medieval to 20th century date, made to enhance drainage within an orchard.
The banks coincide with an enclosed area on the Tithe Map for Whimple which, while depicted as an orchard on the Ordnance Survey 25 inch first edition map, appears to have been reduced to a size smaller than the visible banks, possibly supporting the interpretation that the orchard was passing out of use at this time. The banks are not planted in the 1940s and the banks appear to have now been levelled.
