The remains of ridges of probable post-medieval to 19th century made for fruit tree planting and drainage were visible as earthwork banks to the west of Lower Southbrook, Rockbeare, on aerial photographs of the 1940s onwards and digital images derived from lidar data.
Two areas of parallel earthwork banks, approximately 4 to 7 metres wide were visible, centred on circa SY022964 and SY022963, divided by a driveway to the farmstead. The banks are aligned cross contour onto a nearby stream.
The banks fell within the area of a larger orchard depicted on the Ordnance Survey first edition 25inch map. The orchard remained lightly planted into the 1960s but is now cleared of tree planting. Although cut by the line of the driveway the relict ridges probably survive as low earthwork banks.
