Possible former field boundaries potentially of medieval date were visible on aerial photographs of 1967 and digital images derived from lidar data captured between 2005 and 2010 as earthwork ditches to the south of Higher Cobden, Whimple.
The linear earthworks do not correspond with any boundaries depicted on the Tithe Map for Whimple but do appear to largely fall comfortably within early 19th century field pattern. A possible exception is the ditch that extends to the south-west; if interpreted as a field boundary this earthwork would define a triangular field which is arguably unlikely. It might be more likely to be evidence of a former footpath or track.
The linear ditches probably survive as shallow earthworks.
