A shallow earthwork pit, now in use as a pond but probably the remains of a former quarry or Marl Pit of medieval to post-medieval date, was visible on digital images derived from lidar data to the north of Crannaford House, Broadclyst. The pit is irregularly shaped and measures up to circa 28 metres across.
A pit is depicted in this rough location on the Tithe Map for Broadclyst, which might support the interpretation that the original excavation predated circa 1840. The pit is depicted on the Ordnance Survey first edition 25inch map and therefore certainly predates the 1880s.
