The remains of ridges probably made for fruit tree planting and improved drainage in a small orchard of probable post-medieval to 20th century date were visible on aerial photographs as earthwork banks to the north-west and south-east of Little Churchill’s Farm, Broadclyst.
The ridges corresponded to an orchard depicted on the Ordnance Survey first edition 25inch map and its establishment therefore predates the 1880s. The orchard remained planted into the 1940s but was cleared by 1967, with the tree planting banks clearly visible. It has since been completely cleared and the earthwork banks levelled.
