Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

Similar sized features are recorded in close proximity as ‘Old Clay Pits’ on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s.

Possible clay pits of post-medieval to modern date are visible as earthwork pits on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, to the east of Cottles Farm. The two adjacent earthworks are sub-oval in shape and measure approximately 30m and 42m in length. They are located in close proximity to two similar sized and shaped earthworks recorded as ‘Old Clay Pits’ on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s. The possible former clay pits are visible as earthwork pits on Lidar-derived images captured in 2005.
