Possible orchard banks of post-medieval to modern date are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, to the east of Lower Pilehayes Farm. The earthwork banks are northeast to southwest aligned and occupy an area of approximately 0.38 hectares of gentle northwest facing slope, within a single rectilinear shaped plot. The earthwork banks may represent the remains of a former orchard which passed out of use by the time of the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s, or alternatively may represent the remains of 18th -19th cultivation banks. The earthworks remain visible on Lidar-derived images of 2005.
