The building dates back about 200 years, and appears to only ever have had open floor space, and been used for storage or as a workshop. Access is via a narrow cobbled drang or alleyway down the left-hand side of the building. There is also another rear access directly into the first floor from Market Street/Silver Street. Inside the property the three floors are fully open, and the upper floor is known to have been used as a sail loft, as it has the height and light for carrying out this task. Also on the second floor are the remains of a skittle alley. There are timber staircases linking ground to first, and first to second floors. A steel lifting-beam extends out over the access alleyway, indicating the means by which goods were originally brought into the upper floors of the building.
