Orchard banks of probable post-medieval to modern date are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, at Heathfield Park. An orchard is depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s. Aerial photographs of 1946 to 1963 show that the orchard remains covered with trees, although faint traces of earthwork banks are visible. By 1979, the trees have been largely grubbed up, leaving a series of parallel north to south aligned earthwork banks, on which the fruit trees were established, visible. These banks occupy an area of approximately 0.81 hectares of gentle northwest facing slope, within a single triangular shaped plot depicted on the First Edition OS map. The earthwork banks remain visible on Lidar-derived images of 2005.
