Orchard banks of probable post-medieval to modern date are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, at Woodbury Salterton. Orchards are depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s. Earthwork banks are visible on aerial photographs of 1946, although the site remains covered with fruit trees on aerial photographs up until 1963. By 1979, the trees have been completely grubbed up leaving a series of east to west and northeast to southwest aligned banks visible. These banks occupy an area of approximately 1.14 hectares of gentle west facing slope, within a single plot depicted on the First Edition OS map. The orchard banks have been completely levelled on aerial photographs of 1989, with the western extent having been partly developed on.
