A possible extraction pit of potential medieval to post-medieval date is visible as an earthwork pit and banked feature on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, to the east of Woodbury Salterton. The elongated shaped earthwork pit measures approximately 65m in length by 21m in width and appears to be flanked along its eastern edge by an earthwork bank. The possible extraction pit is adjacent to White Cross Road which interestingly appears to kink around the western edge of the earthwork, and so possibly post-date it. The earthworks remain visible as a pit and banked feature on Lidar-derived images of 2005.
