Plot No. 876 is named as Chantry Mead on the Colyton Tithe Apportionment.

Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division, 1975, SY29SE17 (Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division Card). SDV125122.

There was formerly a chantry capel near Colyford Bridge described as 'Cantaria Capelle Sci Edmundi juxta pontem de Colyford'. It was valued at £5-1.1/2d at the time of the Dissolution. The last incumbant was Peter Honeywood who was living in 1553 on a Crown pension of £6 per year. No trace of the building remains but a field near the bridge is still called the Chantry (citing Oliver 1840, 3; Pulman 1875, 791-2.
The grid reference given is SY253926 but there is a note of there being a Chantry Bridge at SY244942.
