Exeter Archaeology, 2003, East Devon Heathlands Archaeological Survey, 10, Part 1; Part 2: Gazetteer,6, Site No. 20 (Report - Survey). SDV101648.

There are a number of trenches detectable under dense gorse/grasses on south-facing hill slope to the south east of Woodbury Castle. The following four features were noted, however, there are many more similar small cut features obscured by the vegetation. At grid reference SY 0365587008 trench circa 1 metre by 1 metre by 0.4 metre deep. At grid reference SY 0365087007 trench circa 1 metre by 1.5 metre by 0.4 metre deep. At grid reference SY 0364587000 trench circa 1.5 metre by 0.75 metre by 0.5 metre deep. At grid reference SY 0364287004 trench circa 2 metres by 0.3 metres by 0.3 metre deep. The features almost certainly represent World War Two or later military practice trenches.

There are a number of trenches detectable under dense gorse on south facing hill slope to the south east of Woodbury Castle. The following four features were noted, however, there are many more similar small cut features obscured by the vegetation. At SY 0365587008 trench circa 1 metre by 1 metre by 0.4 metre deep. At SY 0365087007 trench circa 1 metre by 1.5 metre by 0.4 metre deep. At SY 0364587000 trench circa 1.5 metre by 0.75 metre by 0.5 metre deep. At SY 0364287004 trench circa 2 metres by 0.3 metres by 0.3 metre deep. The features almost certainly represent World War Two or later military practice trenches. Features lie in an area of dense gorse. Features under no threat from foot traffic. Avoid damage during vegetation clearance. Possibly include with interpretation as World War Two features in the area.
