One of four rectangular features shown on Devon County Council 1946 aerial photograph on northern edge of World War Two camp (see site 69), and southern end of rifle range (see sites 74, 75, 77). Features consist of rectangular slightly sunken area delimited by substantial earthen banks. Areas may have contained buildings, perhaps magazines associated with rifle range, with surrounding banks as blast ‘walls’.

Feature 32 metres northwest-southeast by 16.8 metres, northeast-southwest (interior). Banks 4–5 metres wide by up to 2 metres high. Interior low central bank runs northwest-southeast, 2.6 metres wide by 0.3 metre high. Towards northwest end of north-eastern bank is remnant of brick structure at ground level, visible for 3.5 metres length (probably continues under vegetation/accumulated soil). Low grass and some gorse and mature trees within and on banks.

One of four rectangular features shown on 1946 aerial photograph on north edge of World War Two camp. Features consist of rectangular slightly sunken area delimited by substantial earthen banks. Areas may have contained buildings, perhaps magazines associated with the rifle range, with surrounding banks as blast walls. Feature measures 32 metres north-west/south-east by 16.8 metres north-east/south-west (interior). Banks up to 4-5 metres wide by 2 metres high. Interior low central bank runs northwest-southeast 2.6 metres wide by 0.3 metre high. Towards north-western end of north-eastern bank is a remnant brick structure at ground level, visible for 3.5 metres length (probably continues under vegetation /accumulated soil). Low grass and some gorse and mature trees within and on banks.

Adjacent to major trackways. Bank on south side now almost worn/removed to ground level for 12 metres length due to access from adjacent major northeast-southwest trackway. Two recent military features cut into western bank circa 2 metres by 2 metres by 0.6 metre deep and 1 metre by 0.5 metre by 0.3 metre deep. Sandbags have been placed around the trenches.

Length of visible brick trackway (presumably World War Two) forms part of current footpath (East Devon Way) immediately to west of the enclosure.

Advise military personnel of significance of feature to stop further damage. Possible interpretation as part of World War Two features, including brick trackway.

Exeter Archaeology, 2008, East Devon Access Land Archaeological Survey 2007, 3 and 5, Site No. H76 (Report - Survey). SDV351570.

Features with World War Two training include embanked probable magazine enclosures.

Substantial embanked magazine enclosures.
