Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

The extraction pits are depicted on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s.

Extraction pits of probable post-medieval to modern date are visible as earthwork pits on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, to the east of Upham Cottage. The two adjacent earthworks are semi-circular in shape, measure between 17m to 20m in length and are visible on aerial photographs up until 1966. Lidar-derived images of 2005 appear to show the earthworks have been completely levelled.
