Full description

Reichel, O. J., 1894, The Hundred of Hartland and the Geld Roll (Article in Serial). SDV5887.

The estate of Hole was recorded at the time of Domesday. It was held by Tetbald.

Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division, 1978, SS22SW7 (Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division Card). SDV325529.

Site visit 6th December 1978. The farmhouse at South Hole does not appear to incorporate any features from the old manor house. A platform at SS21852008 was suggested by the present owner as the site of the manor house, but no evidence is available. A very crude datestone '1719' is in the base of the garden wall, but may not be genuine.
