Possible orchard banks of post-medieval to modern date are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards, at Spain Farm. A single orchard is depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s, although by 1947, aerial photographs show that the orchard trees have been largely grubbed up, leaving a series of parallel northeast to southwest aligned earthwork banks, on which the fruit trees were established, visible. North to south aligned earthwork banks to the immediate west are not shown as an orchard on the First Edition OS map, although an orchard may have conceivably been established here, but which was removed prior to this time. The earthwork banks occupy an area of approximately 3 hectares of gentle south facing slope and remain visible on Lidar-derived images of 2005.
