A possible extraction pit of potential medieval to post-medieval date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, to the southwest of Northfield. The earthwork is first depicted as a possible pond on the Clyst Honiton parish tithe map of approximately 1838-48, although is likely to have originally functioned as a small extraction pit. The oval shaped earthwork measures approximately 20m in length by 15m in width and appears to be dissected by, and so predate, the former field boundary depicted on the parish tithe map and on subsequent historic maps. The earthwork pit remains visible on digital images derived from aerial photographs taken in 2010.
