An orchard is depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s.

An extraction pit of likely post-medieval to modern date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards, to the north of Barton Farm. The irregular shaped earthwork measures approximately 33m in length by 27m in width and is located within the northern half of a former orchard, which is depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s and which it likely predates. The former extraction pit remains visible as an earthwork on digital images derived from aerial photographs taken in 2010.
