Earthwork banks of probable post-medieval to modern date are visible on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards, to the northeast of Lower Southwood. The earthworks, which are northwest to southeast and northeast to southwest aligned and occupy an area of approximately 3.42 hectares of gentle northwest facing slope, likely represent the remains of 18th-19th cultivation banks or possibly represent the site of a former orchard, the banks providing improved drainage and increased soil depth for the fruit trees. The earthwork banks remain visible on Lidar-derived images of 2005.
