A probable military structure of Second World War date is visible on aerial photographs of 1946 and 1947, to the northwest of Higher Southwood Farm. The single, square structure measures approximately 3.5m by 3.5m and is located within the central eastern section of an agricultural field. The structure appears to be encompassed by an earthwork bank or fence, with a linear access track visible from its southern edge towards an extant field boundary to the southeast. The function of the site is, however, largely unclear. The structure may represent an observation post or pillbox, or some such feature. Whatever its function, it is likely associated with RAF Exeter to the west and or the dispersed sites located to the south. The structure is visible on aerial photographs of 1947, although has been completely removed and the site levelled by 1966.
