Possible orchard banks of probable post-medieval to modern date are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, at Tanner’s Farmhouse. An orchard is depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s. Aerial photographs of 1946 onwards show that the site of the orchard to the east of Tanner’s Farmhouse is covered with fruit trees, although by 1996 these have been completely cleared, exposing a series of parallel east to west and north to south aligned earthwork banks, on which the fruit trees were established, visible. The site of the earthworks to the west of these, which are northwest to southeast aligned, however, is not shown as an orchard on the First Edition OS map, which may suggest that any additional orchards established here had been entirely cleared by this time. The earthworks occupy an area of approximately 1 hectare of fairly level land. The earthwork banks remain visible on Lidar-derived images of 2005.
