Summary

Farmstead dates to at least the 17th century, based on the probable date of the farmhouse but is likely to be earlier. The layout of the farm in modern times is broadly similar to the historic map depictions, although the farmhouse has been split into two dwellings. Leat serves the farm.

Full description

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

Broomhill Farm is depicted on the Tithe Map; 194 on the Harford Apportionment ('Buildings and yard'). Farmhouse is shown as an L-shaped building, with narrow rectangular enclosures to the north-east, open at the southern ends. Further enclosures shown at the south of the farm, with four additional buildings.

The late 19th century historic map shows a new building to the north of the farmhouse at Broomhill (enclosures are gone), but the other buildings shown are much as the Tithe Map depiction.

Early 20th century historic map matches the late 19th century map, although the farmhouse appears to have been enlarged or altered slightly.
