Summary

Farmstead dates to at least the early-mid 19th century, based on cartographic evidence. However, documentary sources exist that record Combeshead from the early 14th century, so it may have earlier origins. Lies close to neighbouring East Combeshead Farm (MDV113140).

Full description

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

West Combeshead on the Tithe Map consists of the farmhouse to the south, with three buildings ranged to the north. 120 onwards on the Harford apportionment list the buildings, yard and mowhay etc.

The late 19th century historic map shows some changes to some of the buildings and new structures added to the north and south-east of the farm.

The early 20th century historic map shows that the new structures shown on the previous version have now gone and the buildings on the northern side of the farm have been joined up.
