Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

'Tunhill shown on 19th century Tithe Map as two large and two small buildings in an irregular shaped yard. The Apportionment for 'Tunhill' lists Field Number 790 as 'House Garden & Yard'.

(11/10/2019) The first known documentary reference to Tunhill Farm occurs is 1253 as ‘Tonehill’ indicating an origin for the settlement in the 13th century at least, although an earlier date is quite possible. Given such a long period of human activity on the site there is significant potential for the presence of undiscovered, buried heritage assets which have no current surface expression. Tunhill thus possesses a degrees of evidential value while the farm buildings also grant it historical value as they are illustrative of the evolution of Dartmoor farming and the lives of its farming community through centuries. The site should therefore be considered an undesignated heritage asset.
