Name:Former Field Boundary East of Crablake Farm

Summary

A dark linear cropmark, visible on aerial photographs taken in 1984 and 1989, is tentatively interpreted as having formed over the ditch of a former boundary, possibly of medieval or post-medieval date, which went out of use prior to the late-19th century.

A dark linear cropmark, circa 3 metres wide and 50 metres in length, is visible on aerial photographs taken in the 1980s. It is 12 metres to the south of and parallel to a field boundary depicted on the Tithe Map, which has since been removed, and it may have formed over the buried remains of a former field boundary ditch, perhaps of medieval origin. Any boundary here would have fallen out of use by the mid-19th century, as it is not depicted on the available historic mapping. However numerous cropmarks of geological origin are visible in this field and interpretation is tentative.
