Summary
A ring ditch of probable later prehistoric to Roman date was visible on aerial photographs as a cropmark on the east-facing slopes east of Bowls Cross. The ring ditch might be evidence of a round barrow of Bronze Age date.

A ring ditch was visible as a cropmark.

A possible ring ditch of probable later prehistoric to Roman date was visible on aerial photographs as a cropmark on the east-facing slopes, circa 200 metres east-south-east of Bowls Cross. The cropmark measures 1 to 2 metres wide and defined a roughly circular area approximately 12 metres in diameter. A gap in the eastern edge of the transcribed cropmark does not indicate a break in the ditch that could be intepreted as entrance but is instead caused by cropmarks of natural origin obscuring the archaeological cropmarks. It is difficult to identify the date and function of ring ditches from cropmark evidence alone, but it might be evidence of a round barrow of Bronze Age date.
