Orchard banks of probable post-medieval to modern date are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, at Axe Hayes Farm. Orchards are depicted here on the Clyst Honiton parish tithe map of approximately 1838-48, although by 1946, aerial photographs show that the orchard trees have been almost completely grubbed up, leaving a series of broadly parallel north to south aligned earthwork banks, on which the fruit trees were established, visible. These banks occupy an area of approximately 1.44 hectares of gentle southwest facing slope, within two irregular shaped plots depicted on the tithe map. The orchard banks remain partly visible to the north on aerial photographs of 1991, although their survival after this date is uncertain.
