An earthwork pit of a possible former extraction pit of post-medieval to modern date is visible on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, to the south of Sidmouth Road. The earthwork is sub-circular in shape, measures approximately 10m in diameter and is sited up against an historic but now removed field boundary. The presence of a nearby quarry site depicted on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s may suggest the earthwork exercised a similar such function. The possible extraction pit is visible on aerial photographs of 1963, although the Ordnance Survey 2015 MasterMap shows that the site has now been completely levelled and developed for residential housing.

Ordnance Survey, 2015, MasterMap (Cartographic). SDV357601.

The site of the former earthwork pit has been levelled and developed for residential housing.
