A large earthwork pit, circa 70 metres across, is visible on aerial photographs taken from 1979 onwards and and on images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014. It is likely to have been one of several extraction pits in this area that became disused before the late-19th century, since no features are depicted here on the available historic maps. A smaller earthwork pit is visible on the lidar circa 20 metres to the south-east.
