Orchard banks of probable post-medieval to modern date are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1945 onwards, at the former farmstead of Middle Moor. An orchard is depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s, although by 1945, aerial photographs show that the orchard trees have been partly grubbed up within the southeast corner of the site, leaving a series of parallel northwest to southeast aligned earthwork banks, on which the fruit trees were established, visible. These banks occupy an area of approximately 0.45 hectares of gentle southeast facing slope, within a single plot depicted on the First Edition OS map, to the immediate south of Middle Moor. The orchard banks are visible on aerial photographs up until 1967, although by 1988 the former orchard and farmhouse have been completely demolished for construction of Sowton Industrial Estate.
