Summary

Parallel linear banks, visible as earthworks on aerial photographs between 1946 and 1969, are interpreted as post-medieval or 19th century tree planting banks. They seem to have become disused in the second part of the 20th century and may have been levelled.

Parallel linear banks, circa 3.5 metres wide, are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken between 1946 and 1969. Their location corresponds to a field depicted as orchard on the late-19th century mapping and their cross-contour alignment supports an interpretation as tree planting banks of probable post-medieval or 19th century date. Although it still seems to have been in use as an orchard in 1946, by 1969 the banks were only partially visible, apparently in the gardens of several newly constructed houses. The earthworks are not clearly visible on later available imagery, and may have been levelled.
