Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2014-2015, East and Mid Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV356883.
A possible extraction pit of between medieval to modern date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1945 onwards, to the east of Hill Barton Farm. The possible extraction pit appears to have been re-used as a pond which is depicted here on the Heavitree Parish Tithe Map of approximately 1838-48, although the extent of the earthworks recorded as part of this survey do suggest that they predate the field boundary which bisects it. The earthwork is elongated in shape, is east to west aligned and measures approximately 50m in length by 14m in width. It remains visible on aerial photographs of 1992, although Lidar-derived images of between 1998 and 2005 show that the earthworks have been almost completely levelled as part of development of the Met Office, although the western edge of the earthwork appears to remain visible.
