A former field boundary of probable medieval to post-medieval date was visible on aerial photographs as a low earthwork bank on the south-facing slopes south of Upton Pyne. The relict bank is regular in plan and is probably post medieval in date. However, although not depicted itself, the boundary was inserted into a field system depicted on the Tithe Map for Upton Pyne, that is typified by more curvilinear boundaries and that was characterised as being based on medieval strip fields. The boundary is not visible as an earthwork on images derived from lidar data and above ground remains have probably been levelled. However, cropmarks and soilmarks visible on digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2010 might support the interpretation that below ground or spread remains of the earthwork bank survive.
