Evidence of a former orchard of probable post-medieval to 19th century origin was visible as an area of low and narrow earthwork banks on aerial photographs of the 1940s on the south-west facing combe slopes to the south-west of Lower Woodrow, Brampford Speke.
The visible earthwork banks fall within a plot depicted as an orchard on the Ordnance Survey First and Second Edition 25 inch maps and the orchard therefore predated the mid to late 19th century. Very little tree cover could be seen over the banks on aerial photographs of 1946 and the orchard was therefore probably cleared in the first third of the 20th century. The banks remained visible under very sparse orchard planting on aerial photographs of 1960, but could not be seen as earthworks on digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2010 or lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014, and have probably been levelled.
