Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2014-2015, East and Mid Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV356883.

Evidence of a possible former quarry pit was visible on aerial photographs of 1999 as a cropmark on the south-west facing slopes of a combe to the south of Stoke Woods. The dark green on lighter green cropmark is interpreted here as evidence for an irregularly shaped buried pit up to 26 metres wide and 40 metres long. The date and function of the pit are unknown but the cropmark does not correspond with any pit depicted on the Tithe Map for Heavitree in Exeter, and the pit had therefore probably passed out of use prior to the 1840s.
