Earthwork banks of potential medieval to post-medieval date are visible on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, at Alder Grove. The earthworks occupy an area of approximately 3.16 hectares and closely respect the natural topography which is characterised by the steep northeast and northwest facing slope of a prominent spur. The earthworks may represent former field boundaries which appear to have passed out of use by the time of the Uplyme Parish Tithe Map of approximately 1838-48, or represent a series of lynchets, both of which have been recorded in close proximity to the north. The earthworks remain visible on Lidar-derived images of between 1998-2014.
