Possible orchard banks of probable post-medieval to modern date are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1951 onwards, to the northeast of Cannington Farm. Orchards are depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s, although by 1951, aerial photographs show that the orchard trees have been completely grubbed out, leaving a series of parallel northeast to southwest and east to west aligned earthwork banks, on which the fruit trees were established, visible. These banks occupy an area of approximately 0.39 hectares of gentle northwest facing slope, within two irregular shaped plots depicted on the First Edition OS map. The southern of the two plots is not depicted as an orchard on this map, which may suggest that the orchard had been cleared by this time. The possible orchard banks remain partly visible on Lidar-derived images of 1998-2014.
