Possible former quarries of post-medieval to modern date are visible as earthwork pits on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, at Uplyme. The two adjacent earthworks are sub-rectilinear in shape, with the larger of the two measuring up to 31m in length. The earthworks are located in an area where numerous similar such features are recorded on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s, including two much larger-scale quarries to the west. The earthworks are visible on aerial photographs up until 1995, although the Ordnance Survey 2015 MasterMap shows that the site has been completely developed for residential housing.
