Former quarries or gravel pits of likely post-medieval to modern date are visible as earthwork pits on aerial photographs of 1948 onwards, on Raymond’s Hill. The three adjacent and irregular shaped earthworks measure up to 100m in length and are located in an area where a number of similar such features are depicted as quarries and gravel pits on the First Edition Ordnance Map of approximately 1838-48. The southwestern of the three earthworks is depicted on this map and so was not transcribed as part of this survey. Aerial photographs of 1976 show the site has been developed for housing, although the earthworks of the two larger former quarries or gravel pits are clearly visible. These earthworks remain clearly visible on Lidar-derived images of between 1998-2014.
