Full description

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

The Hawkchurch Parish Tithe Map for this area is unavailable, so is not possible to determine whether the field boundaries are extant at this time.

Next Perspectives, 2010, Aerial Photography for Great Britain, Next Perspectives APGB Imagery SY3598 23-MAY-2010 (Aerial Photograph). SDV359317.

Cropmarks which have possibly formed over levelled earthwork banks of former field boundaries are visible.

Richard Sims, 2015-2016, Marshwood Vale National Mapping Programme (NMP) project (Interpretation). SDV359291.

Cropmarks which have formed over possible levelled field boundary banks of potential medieval date are visible on digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2010, to the south of Stonebarrow Lodge. The two parallel and sinuous cropmarks are east to west aligned and are located on the northern side of, and closely respecting, the B3165, on gentle northwest facing slope. It is unclear whether these faintly defined cropmarks of possible former medieval boundaries are present at the time of the Parish Tithe Map of 1838-48 as the digital map data here is unavailable. The cropmarks are not visible on other aerial photographs or digital images made available to the survey.
