Site OTA 4.01. At the north-western end of Trench 205 was a pit (205.004) measuring about 0.5 metres diameter and 0.2 metres deep. An environmental sample recovered from the fill identified cremated human bone and also wood charcoal.

Site 6. Salston B. Initial interest in this site was in the presence of three ditches identified on the geophysical survey but an evaluation trench targetted on two of these ditches also found a pit (205.004). This pit, about 0.5 metres diameter and 0.22 metres deep, was found to contain cremated human bone and charcoal, predominently oak but also alder and hazel. The burial was that of an adult woman, dated by radio carbon to 1948-1772 cal. BC. A slightly earlier date of 2137-1975 cal. BC was obtained on a sample of alder charcoal from the same fill. This earlier date is probably due to dating old wood. Both dates place the burial within the Early Bronze Age. No other features in the excavation area which included a number of other larger pits appear to be associated with the burial.
