‘Sand Pit’ marked at southern end of Clayhidon Turbary on Ordnance Survey 1890 map. It is not known if this refers to an actual sand pit, or is the name of a nearby cottage which was marked as ‘Sandpit Cottage’ on the modern 1:2500 map (see site 362). At the time of the field survey the area was only partially accessible due to fairly dense woodland and undergrowth. No pits were located.
