Summary

Cannon House was at one time the Three Cannons pub. Victorian building in a block which was constructed to replace the series of 17th and 18th century cottages and outbuildings in the lower part of the Square which had become rather dilapidated. Closed as a pub sometime around the 1930s.

Full description

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848, Plot 54 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

Building depicted on the Tithe Map appears to be what preceded the construction of Cannon House; a strangely shaped building that curved around to the north. Plot 54; 'house and garden'.

The late 19th century historic map shows that this area of the Lower Square has been rebuilt, including Cannon House.

Cannon House was at one time the Three Cannons pub. Victorian building in a block which was constructed to replace the series of dilapidated cottages and outbuildings that had gradually infilled the triangular part of the Square during the 17th and 18th centuries. Closed as a pub around the 1930s.
