HER Number:MDV114570
Name:Possible Catch Meadow, southeast of Pound

Summary

A possible catch meadow system of modern date is visible as a series of earthwork ditches on aerial photographs, to the southeast of Pound. The earthworks were originally interpreted as a medieval field system, although this seems unlikely.

Full description

Cornwall Archaeological Unit, 2001-2002, Tamar Valley National Mapping Programme Transcriptions and Database Records, CPE/2501/4012 (Interpretation). SDV346287.

Earthwork ditches visible on aerial photographs have been interpreted as field boundaries of a potential medieval field system.

Hegarty, C., Knight, S. and Sims, R., 2016, Backlog Recording of the Tamar Valley National Mapping Programme Survey (Personal Comment). SDV359374.

The parallel earthworks, which broadly respect the southeast facing slope on the north side of a water course, may more likely represent a modern catch meadow system, rather than medieval field system. Only part of the photo reference is given in the transcription attributes, so the date of the photographs is not known.
